We are back and oh, how we've missed you!

After two years of making due with virtual gatherings, the Haida Gwaii Coffeehouse is ready to resume in-person events!

This coming season, we will gather in the Community Hall, in Daajing Giids. It is a spacious venue which will allow social distancing as needed.

As in years past, the Coffeehouse will take place on the last Friday of every month, starting on September 30, 2022 and going until March 2023. There will be an Open Mic followed by a featured local performer or band.

In addition to live music, we will also host a monthly community dinner preceeding each Coffeehouse. Dinner and music, food for body and soul!

Everything by donation, in cash or in kind!

November 2022 Feature: Alanah M.

Picture
Singer, Songwriter, Mom, Friend - has been singing songs all her life and has been “making stuff up” since she was a little girl. Alanah has fronted a few local bands and collaborated with several local musicians, but her passion is writing and performing her own music.
Her style is unique, and people have said her songs get stuck in their heads with her unusual hooks and well-developed lyrics. She describes herself as “a bit of a hack” because she doesn’t read music and has no formal training on her instrument – her acoustic guitar. She is mostly self-taught and composes by ear. She says, “songs come when they want to be heard, so I listen for the music and lyrics, and then write them”.
