2020-2021 Season

Although the Haida Gwaii Coffeehouse gatherings are currently on hold due to the COVID-19 Global Pandemic, more than ever, we feel compelled to find ways to keep the performing arts alive. Until we can gather again (and yes, good people, we will!), please check out the new monthly House to House events on the third Friday of each month, co-hosted by HG Coffeehouse and the Haida Gwaii Radio Society. We are also grateful for the financial support of the Haida Gwaii Arts Council.

To watch the House to House stream, just click on https://www.twitch.tv/haidagwaiiradio at 7pm, on the day of the event. The Open Mic starts at 7pm sharp, and ends when we run out of Open Mic Submissions (usually no more than 1 hour long). The Feature begins just after the Open Mic, around 8pm or so. The time will vary so tune in from the start to not miss anything!

Each House to House event will feature a local performer or band. Click on the Feature Titles below to listen to past performers. You can strut your stuff too (and maybe win a door prize!) by submitting your home videos for the Open Mic -  upload your videos directly to our Dropbox or email us for instructions.

February 19th Feature: Alanah M.

Picture
I’m Alanah M. I like to sing and write songs and I’m thrilled to share with everyone through House to House. Hope you enjoy the set!

January 15th Feature: Sandlanee Gid Raven Ann

Picture
Raven Ann Potschka is a multi-disciplinary artist who expresses her experience navigating intergenerational trauma through singing, dancing, textiles, photography, clothing and jewelry design. She currently owns and operates a storefront in Masset called Ladybird's Boutique and is a momma to amazing young twins. You may recognize Raven Ann from MCing or facilitating events around Haida Gwaii. As a performance artist Raven Ann enjoys sharing Haida singing and drumming and old skool covers.

December 18th Feature: Möbius

Picture
Do you feel like an autonomic node in a web of dark chaos? Are you feeling burdened by the demands of the proverbial machine? Then Möbius might just be the band for you. The group has been performing their grungy jazzy rock sounds on Haida Gwaii since 2018, but during the pandemic the band has taken the time to explore a new phase. Are their songs visions of a dystopian future, or are they the product of the world around us? Tune in and you can decide...

November 20th Feature: Rusty Mould and the Sugar Agates

Picture

Rusty Mould and the Sugar Agates found each other washed up by the 'great wave' and wandering dazed through the bogs. They spent their time creating instruments from flotsam and jamming quite hard on the tops of rusted out cars. With Seb Dalgarno on guitar/vocals, Finlay Smith on Guitar, Jay Myers on bass and Marcus Alexander on the flowerpots, they developed a sound somewhere between bog-funk, dream-country and jam-swing. Now they descend to the dry land to see if anyone can hear them.

October 16th Feature: Bexley

Picture
Bexley Quinn Kaeon grew up playing punk, metal and grunge and has been part of the island music scene since 2000. She is pretty awesome.
